(Cyantia's mass is actually much higher than this, the low apparent mass is caused by a metal that makes up much of Cyantia's core. This metal, under certain conditions, acts to negate gravity, offsetting much of Cyantia's Mass.
The planet of Cyantia is three times the size of Earth and has a relatively young sun just like Earth. The time for a rotation is approximately 32 hours and the planet is a similar distance from their sun. (This results in a year roughly equal to our own, though they have their own Cyantian Time Units). It has two Moons. One of the moons has a diameter approximately five times that of earth's moon. The other is a tenth of the size of our moon and orbits the first moon. The main moon is Avistary and is mostly tropical with an even atmosphere completely around the surface. It never rains and there are not any oceans on the moon. The atmosphere is made up mostly of a thin layer of mist. It completely revolves around Cyantia in the opposite direction in one day, rotating in such a way that Cyantia is never blocking the sun completely from reaching it. The second moon is 'dead' without an atmosphere.
There are five continents on Cyantia; three make up Rillora, one is located on the opposite side of the world and is called Aciace, and the fifth is located at the southern pole.
The dinos on Cyantia are actually descendents of the dinosaurs that existed on Earth. There were a LOT of natural gates between the worlds of Earth and Cyantia, as well as Cyantia and other worlds. These gates originally served to populate the planet with life from another world that were then hunted by some older aliens. These aliens still exist out there and enjoy hunting strange creatures on less developed worlds.
The average land based Cyantian lives 120 years. The average sea based Cyantian lives to 160.
The northernmost reaches of Cyantia are compromised mainly of islands and large bodies of frozen lakes for most of the year. During the winter it is the harshest area of the planet and seemingly the least welcoming for anyone to live. Despite this there are many Cyantians who call this region home, namely a scattering of thick furred felines, Lynx's, Snow Leopards and the occasional bobcat. Panda type bears, polar and grizzly bears, otter-like creatures and a variety of Cyantians usually found further south are also not unheard of.
Cities are usually located within natural column-like stone formations that rise either above the water line or land. These offer a safe haven from being buried beneath the heavy winter snows and later the rising lakes from the spring thaws.
Transportation between cities and other parts of Cyantia is undertaken by several fashions, the standard space shuttles, transports, lifts, etc serve for long range travel, while the natives of this icy land often make use of the heavily furred northern Shivae or the Snow Gryphons.
Plantlife in this frozen area is actually quite different than what might be expected. Frost grass, Ice fruit and various other cold weather plants flourish in the climate when the temperatures are at their lowest so that their seasons are a reverse of the southern continents. Frost grass is actually a bamboo like material with an edible inside. Large forests of it grow within the lakes, their shoots usually rising ten to fifteen feet off the water's surface. Ice fruit grows on the surfaces of the lake along with various other edible plants. Fish, seal and other land creatures are a main staple of the northern diet.
The majority of the inhabitants of the Alpine regions are not affiliated with any of the governments or civilizations they came from, but live here to escape the constant intrusion of mechanics and engineering. They choose to lead a simplified life, not inconvenienced by the complete hold of civilization. In short, those who choose the north as home want to live as their nature dictates over that of laws. They do as they please within reason and have a republic form of government in which they elect a president every six years.
To keep the peace, they can thank the Northern Guard, a group of enforcers established by the presidency upon the conception of the Alpine. Currently, it has gone corrupt and another militia group has sprung up referred to as the Tundra Guard, made up mostly of Snow Leopards and Otters who disagree with how things are running. Things are slowly dividing in the Northern regions with no end in sight for some time and hostilities rising as cities choose to side with the Tundra Guard or the Northern Guard through ... persuasion.
What would have anyone really interested in rule over this land? Large deposits of gems and priceless elements located beneath the lakes of the northern land. Anyone who owns even a small portion of the land could destroy it and sell the minerals beneath to be set for life, but in doing so, the land would suffer and the creatures who live in it. While some of the inhabitants would be fine with this, the majority call this place home and wouldn't think of selling it out for mere money.
The Mounty population is split up into various city-states located in the mountains. Most of these are built directly into the tops of mountains. This is to conserve the flat areas for growing foods and grazing livestock. Roads through the mountains themselves are virtually non-existent. The Mounty's rely on a complex system of tunnels within the mountains to get from one place to another.
Transportation from city to city is usually done via horseback, underground as above ground travel can at times involve encounters with the vicious and highly territorial Arturrel. It also helps them avoid traveling through extreme conditions. Because of the underground roads, the cities are never disturbed by mass amounts of snow.
In the past a journey by horseback from the city of Vixinte to Mounty territory was about a week through the forest and into the lowlands... though nobody went that way. Too many Genoworks Monsters roam there from the old days - though in truth most will leave you alone if you don't threaten them. (Gralen Cragg Hall, strip 46)
Centralis is a tiered Wolven city. By tiered, there are sections of the city that rise up on poles like petals on a flower for about six levels. The problem is with the area at the BASE of the poles, which never see sunlight because of the orientation of the upper discs, which are set to not block out light for the levels. They can fly and some levels actually do regularly act as transports to other cities. They're essentially cities on their own.
Entire community disks can be moved if necessary.
They have very, very low crime rates in the upper levels and their most valuable items are kept in safe places or are too big to carry off.
The various levels are connected by 'Vertical Rails' - trans that travel at high speeds up and down the levels.
Cyantian Public Interactions
For the most part, you don't touch someone you don't know unless you're psychotic. Cyantians have a really strong sense of personal space and don't like strangers invading it. Most of the time, they have a strong enough sense of smell that they can identify someone by scent before anything else and there's no need of actually sniffing each other all over.
In public, you'll see a bit of PDA among different species, but they do prefer privacy for other things. You won't see two Cyantians making out in the middle of the park. As in.. heavy making out,... kissing and being attentive/touchy in a nonsexual manner are perfectly fine in public. They are very affectionate and touchy in general, but this depends on the species and how well they know each other. Friends have no issues with touching another friend, male or female, how much allowed depends on how well they know each other. Cyantians that have grown up together are a lot freer around each other than those that have just met a few months ago.
Nipping ears, touching noses, quick licking, essentially kissing in some species that would otherwise have a hard time 'kissing' and general kissing would be seen as more or less play.
A light growl is about all that's needed to fend off someone who's ventured too far and it's understand that it's not really 'personal' more that they're uncomfortable with anyone getting too close.
You'll notice that on occasion they are also rough with each other when they're angry or trying to get a point across, such as Celina smacking Darius... of course, nobody BUT Celina would get away with it, simply because that's how they grew up... Celina beating up Darius.
It differs from species to species, but a general rule in meeting someone new is NOT to show teeth. Or at least not to show fangs since that would be more closely identified as a sign of aggression if misused.
When it comes to mating though, 'That time of year' puts any human activities to shame. Cyantians at least do have less of a problem with unequal libidos with their mates. Female Cyantians are typically more interested in sex than most human women and the male Cyantians are typically LESS interested in sex than most human males,... but they are both also fairly active and apparently your physical activity can often have an impact on sexual drive. They channel their energies very effectively. Of course, as I said.. if it's that time of year, you will most likely not SEE a married couple for a few weeks. And the workplace is nice enough to make allowances for that if there is an intention to have children at that time.
They don't have as strong of 'mating' urges until they're older. Their hormones are more 'controlled' all the way around.
There is no "legal drinking age" for Cyantians, meaning they can drink alcohol legally at any age. Cyantians in general are very good at NOT doing something more than necessary. This includes intake of intoxicating substances. There are, however, always exceptions to this.
It's not frowned upon in the least, but usually not done on the spur of the moment in the case of adults because they like keeping their clothing clean. Running indoors for adults is difficult for obvious reasons, but there is plenty of room for cubs to do it, although slick floors have bested more than one.
As Vincent displays, protective gloves and bands are normally worn for running on all fours outdoors or on training courses. Wolves lack pads on their hands and the gloves help in acting as a replacement for traction and shock absorption.
They love to travel in this way in forests, mountains and uneven ground. Their bodies are built for it with a narrower, deeper rib cage than that of a human. Unfortunately, they cannot travel comfortably on all fours over a long distance on flat land. It's more efficient for them to travel bipedally in these cases.
The musculature and skeleton are slightly different in their hips than humans and it will be noted that fat Cyantian wolves cannot travel well on all fours, neither can those who are arthritic or elderly. As a result of those differences, they cannot do splits like humans can because their legs can't go in those directions. They can do the split with one leg in front and one back, but not out to their sides.
Orphanages do not exist on Cyantia - there are no unwanted cubs. Someone will take them in within a matter of days in just about all of the societies because it is the nature of their societies. It doesn't even matter if they are older. There are often even single adults who will take in several cubs as their duty if the need arises. Though many families have multiple cubs, population growth is probably only 5-10% because 50% of the population has a very low fertility rate and do not have cubs, or have very few, so they tend to fill in the gap of taking in cubs of their own.
The majority are of Wolves are betas, average - whereas most of the characters featured in Darius are alphas. They'll naturally have a lot of cubs and are expected to. Genetically they are the cream of the crop, but at least among Wolves this does not play as strongly as aptitude/ability in societal roles. A beta or even a loner/whatever the bottom of the gene pool wolf CAN easily rise in the ranks if they have ability. The wolves are the extreme on the freedom to strive to become more, whereas the Fox are the complete opposite where it doesn't matter if you have ability, you are classified by your fur color and genetics. Since Fox are also not originally as pack oriented, they have less genetic diversity due to the strict color pairings and also tend to arrange a pair with similar abilities.
Children are raised with the expectation that they will (in the majority of families) be expected to care for their parents when they are old, just as they were cared for as cubs - so parents better treat their kids right or THEY might wind up abandoned. There isn't any type of set 'retirement' and old Cyantians don't tend to 'retire'. They move on to another phase of their lives which tends to be watching the cubs again.
They are very communal in different ways. The pack is made up of the family pack first, that is, the immediate local family which often reside together, then their neighborhoods of friends and relatives who may live nearby, then their city and then their nation.
Families obviously spend the most time with each other, but a couple of times a week they likely eat together with other local families and related families in a rotation. That would be more among the Wolves, Fox and Koyoti. Community wide dining would happen less frequently, and of course there are even larger encompassing gatherings.
Among the Mounties this is even more common, with most eating and food preparation not done at home, so most eat together as a community and gather together afterward for entertainment. It's part of their culture to be more involved in this way. While Earth cats tend to be more solitary, on Cyantia they like their 'colonies'.
They vary from species to species and city state to city state, but in general, they are all pack oriented and even the involved humans fall into this.
Cyantian style hockey does not involve sticks. It involves kicking a puck like item and ricocheting it off obstacles and armor.
Cyantian Wolves and most other species tend to perspire all over their bodies due to their body size, but tend not to bathe more often than once a week. They have full body blowers that can dry fur very quickly.
Used in riding domesticated Horses. Unlike Terran varieties, the stirrups do not have a round bar. They have a flat bar for stability that is wider and slopes from heel down to toe a little for leverage. The stirrups are enclosed on the front because their feet are more likely to slide through and get tangled being shorter than human foot. As for staying ON the horse – well… their different leg structure might give them a few seconds longer than a human in a similar situation.
