A race few in number, with very few females. Females are treasured and protected for the future of their kind.

There are around forty or fifty Hyenas of various kinds in small groups scattered around with very young females, most too young to breed at this time, so they tend to be very protective.

A group of spotted Hyenas was seen in Campus Safari, though only one, Kibi, has had an important role in the plot so far. In Akaelae, there is a striped hyena one named Kumari.

Cyantian Hyenas are anatomically correct like their Earth counterparts! (Meaning males and females share certain anatomical similarities)

There is a novel written by Spike named Latvia the Pirate Captain which is canon to the Cyantian Chronicles. The Sink or Swim crew meets space pirates composed by a crew of hyenas who are headed by the Alpine space captain / matriarch Latvia.
